Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum Statement
INTENT
At Glenmead Primary School pupils learn French as their Modern Foreign Language. By teaching the French Language we aim to inspire our pupils to deepen their knowledge of France and French Culture as well as developing an interest in learning other languages in the future. We aim to develop pupils’ understanding and communication of the French Language through a range of activities. Pupils will be equipped with a range of vocabulary and phrases to be able to communicate in a simple but clear manner. We strive to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing because they are necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts. They also lay the foundations for future language learning.
IMPLEMENTATION
At Glenmead we use a range of resources to support the Scheme of work to ensure coverage and progression across school. This scheme provides a range of different activities that structure lessons and provide support for non-specialist teachers. The scheme of work outlines the content for each year group in Years 3 to 6. At Glenmead we also use French songs to reinforce vocabulary. Teachers also supplement the learning of the French language using different websites such as:
